Julie grew up in the Bay area just an hour away from my hometown. We met the summer following my freshman year of college while working in the ticket booth at Oakwood Lake Waterslides. I always looked forward to the weekends when our shifts would overlap. My very first impression of her: This girl is FUN!!!
I married that fall, about the time she started dating my brother and the rest is history. We have shared so many great memories. During the lean years while working to put our husbands through college we’d have movie nights and make homemade fries. We could sing Barry Manilow songs all night long even before karaoke was a thing. We shared trips to the mountains, to the coast, and to Disneyland. I vaguely recall once coming dangerously close to capsizing our pontoon boat rental out on the lake. A recent highlight was rocking out with family at a Lionel Richie concert in Vegas. Good stuff.
Everything is funner when Julie is around. She can hold her own against anyone when it comes to 70s and 80s music trivia. She is just about the World’s Greatest Page Turner and she can harmonize like nobody’s business. Listening to her play her rendition of Winter Wonderland on the piano is a treat— she rocks those key changes.
