Thanks for Visiting

Over time I have written a number of songs. I will continue to add them to this blog so, please, keep coming back to see what's new.

Choose the Right

A few months back when I noticed that the hymn Choose the Right would be included in the 2017 primary program I set out to write a piano accompaniment for it.  I wanted to write something that would challenge the singers a bit.

With the second verse it is especially important that the children have a good feel for the melody as I have given the accompaniment a lot of freedom.  The lyrics and melody are straight out of the hymnbook, with the last five words repeated at the very end.

I consider myself extremely lucky to have the opportunity to interact with such an amazing group of singers here in Bend, Oregon who are eager to join with me and record at a moment's notice.  Bekah, Brynlie, Cannon, Caroline, Christopher, Gavin, Kassidy, Oliver, Paiten, Porter, Sage, and Samuel — You Are Rock Stars!!  Thanks a million!!

  1. I have been planning to use this beautiful arrangement this year. I tried to download the sheet music and it is gone. Is there somewhere else I can get it? This was my favorite arrangement of all I've looked at.

    1. Sorry about that -- technical difficulties. I also have it on the free lds sheet music site at http://freeldssheetmusic.org/song/Choose-the-Right-Primary-by-Terri-Hutchings
If that does not work I would be happy to email it to you if you send me your email address. We are hoping to have it available on this blog site again soon.

  3. Hi Terri, this is Debi Hansen from my old and your current stake! We moved to AZ and are enjoying the pretty desert and the warm sunshine here but miss you all in Central Oregon. I am in the Primary now. The singing leader had chosen your version of "Wish Man, Foolish Man". I knew I had heard it and was pleasantly surprised to see it was one of your versions. I wonder if you have it recorded somewhere. I haven't played the piano in awhile and am trying my best to conquer it!!! Best wishes to you and Chuck :)

    1. Hi Debi, it’s so good to hear from you. We miss you guys!! My sister moved to Arizona recently too. That’s awesome that you are in primary too — my favorite place to be. There should be a link to download an mp3 of The Wise Man here on my music site. You might have to scroll up and on the right where the alphabetical listing is I have it under “The Wise Man and the Foolish Man”. Then down below the videos are the download options of sheet music and mp3 files of piano only or singing. If that doesn’t work just send me your email address and I can email the files to you. Have fun with it. Take care.

  5. Thank you so much for letting your "light shine on a hill". We will be singing your arrangement of "Wise Man & Foolish Man" as a Primary. Also, as a result of this arrangement, I summoned the courage to teach the children all 3 verses of "Choose the Right". I now see how valuable every word in that hymn is to their growing testimonies, as well as understand that the children's capacity to learn far surpasses my own weaknesses (with the help of the spirit, of course:) In short, I am so grateful for you and your gift, as it has blessed so many of us (New Mexico) in ways you'll never know!

  6. We used this arrangement during our Primary program this past Sunday and it was so powerful. The kids had long enjoyed practicing it, but when we finally added the congregation (and organ!) to the 3rd verse, it brought such a wave of the Spirit to the meeting. Thank you so much for sharing your talents so freely so that we could experience that.

In fact, my Primary kids liked it so much that they wrote you a thank you card. Do you have an email address at which I could contact you so that I could get an address to send it to? Or if you'd prefer, I can just scan it and send it to you. But whatever you're most comfortable with, I'd really like you to be able to receive not just my thanks, but my children's thanks as well.
