Thanks for Visiting

Over time I have written a number of songs. I will continue to add them to this blog so, please, keep coming back to see what's new.

The Wise Man and the Foolish Man

A few weeks back my friend, Melissa Robbins, asked if I would be interested in writing an arrangement of the song in the Children's Songbook, "The Wise Man and the Foolish Man."  With it she hoped to present ward primary leaders in our stake with an option, a more reverent alternative, should they wish to include it in their primary presentation this fall.

No hand motions for this version.  My hope is that the children enjoy singing it, but more importantly, that they feel the powerful message in the words as they do.

  2. Wow! Terri! Peggy told me about this. I don't know if you remember me, but my husband took over for your husband in the bishopric in the CC ward a few years ago. I hope it's ok that I use this with my primary kids over here in the valley! It's beautiful!!! Thank you!!!!

  3. Terri, What a beautiful rendition of this song. I wasn't planning on doing this song for the program, but now I may need to rethink that after listening to your version. Would you mind giving rights to your doc to print it? Your link to download takes you to the googledoc; however, it does not allow anyone to download and print the file. Looks like there are only view rights. Would it be possible to change the rights so that it can be printed correctly? Oh, I posted a link to your blog on my blog "In the Leafy Treetops the Birds Sing "Good Morning". Thank you for being so willing to share.

  4. Thanks so much for this! We have a large primary and I was concerned doing this song would get out of hand. Now I have the option for it to absolutely beautiful!

  5. Absolutely beautiful! I was going to do the song in our program, but I had also chosen another song as well. I will be doing this one instead here in our little Eastern Oregon ward if that is okay.

  7. Thank-you! This is such a lovely alternative! There was some concern about the feel of the song as written for the presentation, so I think this will help with that!

  9. I'm subbing in Primary (as Ward Music Chairman) for our ward here in the UK. We have a relatively small Primary (12 regulars) but I reckon I can pull this off - I hadn't really given the song much thought until I found this, I agree with all the comments in saying this is beautiful. I am in awe of people with this much musical talent.

  12. Hello-I love this song! I am so excited to use it in our primary program. Love the arrangement, and I feel it allows the meaning of this parable to really shine through. One question-do you know if I could get an mp3 version to download to my iTunes and burn on a CD for the kids to practice? Our pianist will need quite a bit of practice time to pull this one off but I can't wait that long to teach it to my kids. Any ideas?

  17. This is absolutely beautiful! I have been feeling strange with singing it the way that the kids know it for a wiggle song but with this arrangement, it will be fabulous. THANK YOU SO MUCH TERRI!!! You are so talented, and I'm so grateful you are sharing it with the world. God Bless!!!!

  18. What a wonderful version of this song! I taught this to our primary in Henderson, Nevada today and the children (from the youngest to the oldest) all loved it! The spirit was so strong in Sr. primary as we sang the last line of the song. I can't wait for our ward to hear it in our primary program this fall!

I just have to give a nod to our fantastic singers: Branson, Carsen, Faith, Forrest, Kayla, Macey, Maile, Marcus, Paige, Peyten, and Sara. You are AWESOME!!

  27. I just wanted to thank you for sharing your talent, and allowing us to use this. Our Primary sang this arrangement for our Primary Program today. This music touched many hearts and the comments I heard indicated that it was the favorite. Truly beautiful, and the children love it. In fact, I've heard that they sing it all the time at home. Truly, it brought an incredible spirit to our presentation. Thank you so very much.

  30. Terri, I love your arrangement. I first heard it when my grandchildren sang it for their primary program. I felt the ending needed to be resolved so after sacrament meeting I found a piano and resolved it to the key signature. Please do not stop writing arrangements. Love your talent. Hugs, Shalene

  31. Hi Sister Hutchings,

Our chorister and pianist love this arrangement. From what I have read we are OK to use it for the primary program 2017. Also just wanted to get your permission to record onto our primary CD we make for the children in our Primary. Just wanted to ask your permission and blessing.

Thanks you, Donae Oak Valley Ward

  38. Terri, our primary chorister found your arrangement and we love it too. What is the Southern folk song it was taken from. I'd like to see the lyrics and music from the old folk song.

    1. Thanks Kathie. I found the source in the Children’s Songbook. Instead of giving credit to an individual for wiring the words and music it just says “Southern folk song.” I have never delved into it any further but it would be fun to look into.

  39. We sang your arrangement of "The Wise Man and Foolish Man" for the Primary Program 2 weeks ago (CTR 2017). It touched so many hearts, and many have commented that it was their favorite of the songs the children performed. I hope you'll consider submitting it to the "Friend" so children and their families all over the world may be blessed by this beautiful and inspired work.
