One day after school as my son was walking through
the high school parking lot, he was motioned over to a van. The mother of one of his friends called
to him and said, “Adam, today is your lucky day,” and she handed him a Jamba
Juice. She had bought Jambas for
her sons and bought an extra one to give away. While sitting in her car waiting for her boys to show up,
she had been looking for someone to surprise. When Adam got home he was all smiles as he relayed the
experience to me.
The next time I saw her I thanked her and told her
what a thoughtful friend she was.
Smiling, she replied that she has a goal to try to do something nice for
someone each day. My Adam was the
lucky recipient that afternoon.
We’re told that when we lose ourselves in service
to others, we truly find ourselves.
As we serve, we spread love — and where love is, there God is also. Marty Hough has long since moved from
Bend, but her small act of kindness left a lasting impression on me.
This piece is for piano, flute and oboe. I arranged it for a women’s conference a
few months ago. It was a lot of
fun working with Carline Jones and Erin Taylor on the project. Thanks so much to Joanne Bushman Doxey
and Marjorie Castleton Kjar for so graciously allowing me to share this arrangement
of their music with you.

This song is beautiful. I love it and want to play it in sacrament meeting with my two daughter. We are moving and they asked us if we could play before we leave. I have been struggling to find a piece for all three of us. I play the piano and my daughters play the flute and clarinet. Do you have a magic button on your writing program that can transpose the oboe part to clarinet (a b flat instrument)? I can do it, but it would be time consuming. Thank you for the beautiful music.
ReplyDeleteI do have a magic button. =) If you give me your email address I can send it to you. I just transpose up a whole step for clarinet, right?
