Whenever I write an arrangement for cello, I do so
with my dear friend, Teresa Herrmann, in mind.
She is a gifted musician.
She can make her cello sing.
Last September Teresa lost her sister, Lori. Shortly after they laid her to rest, Teresa mentioned that
this was one of Lori’s favorite songs so I arranged it for piano and cello so that
we could perform it together as a tribute to her sister.
About the time I finished, I realized that this song
was to be included in the 2018 primary program so I tweaked it a bit to include
children’s voices.
I know it gets high at the end, but that is the
wonderful climax I remember trying to sing as a child. I’m sure 7-year-old Terri was standing
on her tiptoes straining to reach that high note. Still, I wanted to stay true to Clara McMaster’s ascending
melody at that part. You can
always opt to let a few of your lower voices slip down an octave somewhere
around “of which I’m a part” if needed.
Another thought is to add flute or violin on the second verse to beef up
the melody line.
Once again I called upon this group of fantastic
young singers to help record it.
You are all SUPERSTARS!! Thanks
again and again.

Thank you for all you do for these children and all the talent you bring to the world of music.
ReplyDeleteThere’s nothing like the beautiful voices of children to testify of Heavenly Father’s love for us. Thank you for sharing your talents.
ReplyDeleteThis is a perfect fusion of both pieces: a single angelic child's voice singing with such purity one of my favorite primary songs, followed by many childrens' voices aiming a powerful hymn about ALL creatures of our God and King. Very moving and inspiring, I love it! Xoxo Thank you Terri
ReplyDeleteThis is so so beautiful!! Would you happen to have an arrangement for it for SATB? I'll try and figure out a way for my choir of adults and children to sing it anyway if not because it is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.! karysharee@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Sorry, I don't have it as SATB, just voices in unison. It would be fun with choir and children together though. Feel free to make it your own.
